Parkway project bodes well for Green River Lake

There seems to be some good things in the works for Taylor County.

County and city officials met with the governor recently to talk about bringing a lodge and golf course to Green River Lake State Park.

This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a budget that included $500,000 to study the "Heartland Parkway," a proposal that would connect the Bluegrass Parkway in northern Washington County to the Louie Nunn Parkway in Adair County.

Neither the lodge nor the parkway are sure things, however, significant steps have been made in both directions during the last few weeks.

The Kentucky General Assembly will consider funding for the lake project in January. Funding for the parkway study still has to get approval from the U.S. Senate and the president's signature.

A parkway should only improve Taylor County's chances of getting a lodge at Green River Lake State Park. With a parkway comes better access to visitors from other areas wishing to visit what could make the lake an even stronger tourist attraction.

Our city, county and state officials have done a good job in pursuing these projects that could highlight Taylor County and bring tourism, travel and other dollars to this community.

We encourage them to continue to pursue these ventures that might mean more visitors to Green River Lake and better access to Taylor County with a parkway that connects the community to other major thoroughfares. With more visitors comes a stronger tourism industry, and other benefits to the local economy.
